About Layercake Strategic
KP Doyle is the founder and owner of Layercake Limited, through which he carries out board & executive engagements, private investment and advisory roles across the healthcare services sector.
Having formerly invested in, grown and successfully sold several health service businesses, KP today enjoys working with founders, entrepreneurs, Boards and fellow investors who are looking to grow their businesses or deal with strategic challenges. He invests directly and alongside funds and institutions.
Current roles
KP is currently an investor in and sits on the Boards as Chairman/NED of a number of respected and rapidly growing businesses in the healthcare space.
These currently include Evo Dental (oral surgery – Chair), Healthshare (NHS pathway management and provider of MSK/Diagnostics – Chair) and Re:Cognition (health services – clinical trials/dementia and CNS – Director)
KP’s involvement in such growth opportunities can be as a result of direct investment (Blue Zinc), from helping to secure additional growth capital (Re:Cognition), driving a turnaround (Evo Dental) or as part of new investment from a 3rd party institutional source of capital (Healthshare). KP particularly enjoys working with entrepreneurs to help transition to being best placed to take on growth capital for the next stage of their company’s development.
KP often assists private equity early on in a deal processes in help with smooth running and targeting of all aspects due diligence and transition to taking on board new investment and all it entails, strategically, culturally, operationally, commercially, legally and financially.
KP is currently an elected member of the Strategic Council of the independent Health Provider Network (HPN) (currently in post, following 2 successful elections to post). HPN is the national trade body of independent sector organisations working in partnership with the NHS.
Previous roles
KP has a wealth of executive and non-executive experience – from large multi-faceted corporations to start ups. Buy and build platfroms are central to much of what he has done, combining corporate finance expertise with post deal skills on integration and cultural alignment to create value beyond the simple transaction or execution of a deal.
He has held many roles in multi site operations, from gyms to hospitals, from dental surgeries to specialist care facilities.
Highly commercial and numerate, KP has helped many of the companies he has worked at cope with strategy, change management, brand evolution and product and proposition innovation.
Clearly to carry out such roles, stakeholder management and communication is a key skill KP very much values.
KP is Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, having qualified with Arthur Andersen early in his career .
Historically KP has achieved many multiple returns of >3.7x in transactions undertaken as principal or investor.

He speaks passionately about these sectors and the things that challenge and mould them.
KP is often asked to judge industry recognition awards and participate in panel debates and workshops.
In 2023 KP was recognised by Health Investor for outstanding contribution to the sector by an individual.
